AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE | ATO.GOV.AU 'BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU SHARE' VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Sharing is what connects us as people, as friends and family. We share big news and political views. Holiday snaps and funny mishaps. We share afternoon tea, and our grandchildren’s new degree. But sometimes sharing can be dangerous. It’s important to know how to identify an illegitimate request for information. The ATO will never turn up at your house without an appointment, would never ask you unexpectedly to send security information in an email, the ATO doesn’t ever call you demanding immediate payment, and the ATO would never threaten you with arrest. If your information gets in the hands of the wrong person, it can be very hard to know when you’re being taken advantage of. So always be aware of what you share. If you’re unsure about any request for information, or if you feel you may have shared sensitive information with the wrong person, please contact the ATO directly on 1800 008 540 or go to ato.gov.au
